North Harford’s Nic Hammer won the first Ravens’ high school Quarterback Challenge of the season with a 53-yard completion to teammate Ryan Feiss on Sunday during halftime of the Ravens-Browns game.
Hammer, a senior, outgunned Harford County rival Brendan Weinhold, Fallston’s junior quarterback.
The QB Challenge, held at each Ravens’ home game, pits quarterbacks from rival high schools in a duel to complete the longest pass or to be the most accurate. While the quarterbacks this week competed in the long toss, others will compete to be the most accurate by trying to hit nets set at varying distances.
In the long toss competition, the quarterbacks throw to two teammates. Hammer also completed a 50-yard pass to Richie Greene. Weinhold hit Ross Mitchell for 46 yards and Brad Rose for 44 yards.
Hammer and Weinhold will meet again, but not until Nov. 1, when North Harford travels to Fallston for the annual showdown between the Hawks and the Cougars.
