Mount grad Nangle to coach Liberty women
Central Connecticut State women's lacrosse coach Kelly Nangle (Mount St. Mary's) has been hired as the second head coach in Liberty's program history. Nangle takes over for Regan Denham, who coached the Flames for four seasons before resigning in May.
Nangle guided the Blue Devils to a 16-18 overall record and a 12-6 mark in Northeast Conference action. Two years ago, Nangle helped Central Connecticut State tie a program record with seven victories while setting new program standards with five Northeast Conference victories and six home wins. Nangle was recognized for her efforts, as she was named the 2012 NEC Coach of the Year and her senior keeper Erin DeLancey was selected the NEC Goalkeeper of the Year.
This past season, Nangle's squad finished second in the NEC with a 7-2 conference record. The Devils made their first-ever appearance in the NEC tournament, advancing to the semifinal round.
Prior to Central Connecticut State, Nangle spent three years as an assistant coach at Rutgers (2009-2011). In 2008, Nangle served as the head coach at St. John's Catholic Prep in Frederick. She helped the Vikings increase their win total by four times during her once season, as St. John's Catholic was winless the year prior to her arrival. Nangle got her start in coaching at Mount St. Mary's as a volunteer assistant in 2007.
During her time on the field with the Mountaineers, Nangle was a four-time All-Northeast Conference selection, including first-team honors one year. The standout defender currently ranks second in Mount St. Mary's history in career ground balls (204), fourth in caused turnovers (116) and 16th in draw controls (65).
