Ray Lewis resumes workouts with the Ravens at the team's facility

Ray Lewis, who has been rehabbing his surgically-repaired torn right triceps muscle primarily in Florida, is back working out in the team facility, though Ravens coach John Harbaugh was noncommittal on when he’ll return to practice.

Lewis, who was put on injured reserve with a designation to return on Oct.17, three days after sustaining the injury in the Ravens’ Week 6 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, can start practicing Thursday. However, the Ravens and Lewis will proceed with caution as the linebacker won’t be eligible to play in a game until Dec.16 against the Denver Broncos.

“Ray Lewis is here. He’s rehabbing. He’s not practicing today and we’ll just play it day-by-day as far as whether he practices or not,” Harbaugh said. “He’s not imminent to return to play or anything like that, so to me, it’s really a non-story. He’ll go out there when he’s ready to practice when the elbow holds up, and when that happens, we’ll let you know.”

When Lewis initially sustained the injury, it was expected that he’d miss the rest of the season. However, Lewis, who had surgery on Oct. 17, has made a rapid recovery and it now appears likely that he’ll return before the end of the regular season.

“If he gets out to practice, it would be pretty amazing,” said Ravens running back Ray Rice. “The guy, to me, is my modern day Superman. … Why is he coming back? People ask that question all the time. He’s coming back because he firmly believes that this is a team that can go ahead and do it. He does it for us. He’s not doing it for the stats. He’s not doing it for the fame. He’s doing it solely because he loves the Ravens, he loves his teammates [and] he loves this organization.”

Ravens outside linebacker Terrell Suggs said that the Ravens, who are 4-1 this season since Lewis went down, can’t wait to get their leader back.

“I know when he did it, all you guys said he’s out for the season but we’ve heard that before,” said Suggs, making reference to his surprisingly quick return from a torn Achilles . “I guess [it’s] what they got down in the water up in here in Maryland.”
