State women: Loyola pulls away, deals Towson first setback, 52-44

Katie Sheahin had 14 points and eight rebounds to help the Loyola women's basketball team hand Towson its first loss of the season, 52-44, on Sunday at Reitz Arena.

The Greyhounds (2-3) finished the game on a 10-2 run to pull away for their first home victory of the season after the Tigers' Tanisha McTiller tied the game at 42 with a jump shot with 7:29 remaining.

McTiller led Towson (3-1) with 15 points and added five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Nyree Williams (Howard) had 10 points and 15rebounds.

UMBC 78, Eastern 40: Bria White scored a game-high 16 points off the bench as the Retrievers (3-3) concluded their five-game homestand with a victory against the Eagles (1-3).

Lauren Chase finished with 13 points, six rebounds, a career-high five steals and four assists to help UMBC end a two-game losing streak.

Bucknell 72, Morgan State 64: Shelby Romine scored 11 of her team-high 14 points in the second half to lead the visiting Bison (3-2) over the Bears (3-3).

Morgan State's Bianca Jarrett scored 18 points and had a game-high seven assists. Tracey Carrington (Dundalk) and Chyress Lockhart each added 13 points; Carrington had eight rebounds.

Howard 77, Mount St. Mary's 52: Saadia Doyle had 26 points and eight rebounds as the Bison (2-4) used a 26-9 first-half run to pull away in defeating the visiting Mount (1-3).

Sydney Henderson paced Mount St. Mary's with 21 points. Jessie Kaufman added 12.

Johns Hopkins 47, Washington & Lee 42: Alex Vassila had a career-high 19 points and 11 rebounds as the Blue Jays (2-3) rallied past the visiting Generals (2-2).

The Blue Jays scored 20 points in the final 8:25 to overcome a nine-point second-half deficit.

Marymount (Va.) 57, Goucher 33: Tynisha Parks scored 14 points as the host Saints (2-2) defeated the Gophers, a former Capital Athletic Conference foe.

Sharnell Huff led Goucher with 13 points. Latifah Butler (Annapolis) had 12 rebounds.

Methodist 63, Hood 59: The Monarchs (2-2) went ahead on a layup by Brianna Robinson with 2:17 to go and beat the Blazers (1-2) on the second day at the Methodist Turkey Shootout.

Hood's Shakara Head (Joppatowne) scored a season-high 14 points off the bench on 6-for-9 from the field.
