Towson president will take time to review final report on sports cut recommendations

Towson University president Maravene Loeschke will take an indeterminate amount of time to review a final report on proposed sports cuts delivered by the university’s Athletics Task Force, she announced Monday.

In a letter posted on Towson’s website, Loeschke said that the task force concluded that the elimination of men’s soccer and baseball “is the most viable way for Towson University to achieve compliance with Title IX requirements, long-term financial stability and competitiveness. “

Loeschke originally planned to make a final determination on the fate of baseball and men’s soccer this week, but said that she will now “require more time to review” the information collected by the task force.

Loeschke received the final report Friday afternoon. The task force, which was convened after athletic director Mike Waddell delivered recommendations to cut sports, explored 13 alternative options and listened to concerns in open forums and via email.
