State hoops roundup: Morgan men fall to Holy Cross, 74-73

Holy Cross edged host Morgan State, 74-73, in men's basketball on Dave Dudzinski's 20 points and eight rebounds Sunday.

Anthony Hubbard scored 17 points and had eight rebounds for the Bears (1-2). The Crusaders improved to 2-1.

Alderson-Broaddus 81, Bowie State 78, OT: The Bulldogs came back from an 18-point deficit but could not pull out a win at the Clarion Hotel Classic at Shepherd. Byron Westmorland scored 31 points for the Bulldogs, while the Battlers' O'Dell Eargle scored 22.

Houston-Baptist 70, UMES 55: Despite Kyree Jones' 28 points, the Hawks (0-2) could not shut down the Huskies (2-0) and Art Bernardi, who had 22 points at the Rainbow Classic at Hawaii.

Washington 85, Loyola 63: The host Huskies (1-0) cruised past the Greyhounds (1-1) on Chris Wilcox's 22 points and Abdul Gaddy's 17.


Wake Forest 82, Coppin State 75: Chelsea Douglass scored a career-high 23 points to defeat the visiting Eagles (1-1) in the Deacons' first game of the season. Leola Spotwood had 19 points and six rebounds for Coppin.

UMBC 71, Monmouth 68: Brittany Crowell scored a career-high 25 points in the host Retrievers' win over the Hawks (0-1). Monmouth scored four points in 11 seconds to narrow its deficit to two points with 17 seconds remaining but could not take the lead. Betsy Gadziala and Abigail Martin had a combined 24 rebounds against the Retrievers (1-1).

Stony Brook 44, Navy 40: The visiting Midshipmen (0-2) lost their second straight game despite a strong performance by Alix Membreno, who posted 17 points and six rebounds. The Seahawks (1-1) came from behind with a little over a minute of play left when Sabre Proctor scored to give them the lead.
