Weekend Wrap: Shane Cockerille leads Gilman to 'A' Conference title game

Gilman will play Calvert Hall for the MIAA A Conference football championship Saturday thanks in large part to the play of Shane Cockerille.

The senior quarterback and Maryland commitment guided the Greyhounds to a 20-8 win over McDonogh on Saturday in the A Conference semifinals.

The Greyhounds rushed for 197 yards with University of Maryland-bound quarterback Shane Cockerille responsible for 119 along with eight of 16 throwing for 129 yards.

** The high school career of Terps running back pledge DeAndre' Lane came to an end Friday with Catonsville's 26-7 loss to Sherwood in the Class 4A playoffs.

Catonsville never did get the breakaway play on offense, but they plugged away behind the running of DeAndre’ Lane (23 carries, 114 yards), Joseth Hylton (15 for 57) and Julian Singletary (12 for 49).

** Maryland-bound wide receiver Deon Long caught two passes for 21 yards -- including a 14-yard touchdown reception -- in Iowa Western Community College's 54-7 win over Ellsworth for the Midwest Football Conference championship.
