Blast weekend: Games vs. Chicago Soul, Syracuse Silver Knights

Friday: vs. Chicago Soul

Saturday: vs. Syracuse Silver Knights

Site: 1st Mariner Arena

Times: 7:35 p.m.

Outlook: The Blast looks to build on last Saturday's 23-13 season-opening win over the Chicago Soul with back-to-back games this weekend. First up is a second straight visit from the Soul, which the Blast dominated in the second half. The Blast used a balanced attack in the opener, led by newcomer Tony Donatelli's three goals and a good first game for rookie goalkeeper Troy Hernandez (nine saves), who settled down after a rocky start. The game plan against the Soul is easy — stop veteran Carlos "Chile" Farias, who scored three goals in the game's first four minutes and is by far the team's most dangerous player. From there, the Blast will come back Saturday night to take on the rested Silver Knights, who went 1-1 last weekend. Slavisa Ubiparipovic, the league's Rookie of the Year last season, and Nelson Santana (eight points in the first two games) are the starting points for the Silver Knights, with newcomers Neto and Matt Clare also dangerous threats. For the Blast, fellow rookie goalie William Vanzela may get the call in one of the games.
