Fall sports Curley beats Mt. St. Joe, earns top seed

Needing a win Saturday to earn top seed in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference tournament next week, Archbishop Curley beat host Mount St. Joseph, 3-0.

A loss would have given the top spot to No. 2 Loyola.

Jake Ossie made four saves in his seventh shutout of the season.

Curley and Loyola got first-round byes, and the Friars (14-3-2) await the winner of Gilman-Mount St. Joseph in Thursday's semifinal at 3 p.m.

No. 2 Loyola 3, No. 8 Calvert Hall 0: Louisville-bound Jeremy DeGraffenreidt had a goal and an assist for the host Dons (14-3). Second-seeded Loyola awaits the winner of Tuesday's McDonogh-Calvert Hall quarterfinal in Thursday's semifinal.

No. 5 Gilman 4, John Carroll 1: The visiting Greyhounds (12-4-4) got goals from four players to beat the Patriots (3-16). Sam Wancowicz, Riley DeSmit, Robby Vint and Tyler Ruhl scored for Gilman, which will face visiting No. 7 Mount St. Joseph in Tuesday's quarterfinal at 3 p.m.

No. 4 Marriotts Ridge 8, Dundalk 2: Amir Najib had a hat trick to power the Mustangs (16-0) past the Owls in a Class 2A North regional semifinal at Howard. Marriotts Ridge led 6-1 at the half.

Girls soccer

Institute of Notre Dame 1, St. Paul's 0: Kelsey Roberts scored on a penalty shot to lift the Indians (15-3-1) over the Gators in an Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland B Conference semifinal at Meadowood Park. IND faces St. John's-Catholic Prep in the championship at 5 p.m. at Stevenson.
