Weekend Wrap: Sam Cassell Jr. reportedly back on the market

A week after committing to Maryland, Sam Cassell Jr.'s pledge to the Terps is in doubt.

On Sunday, South Florida's 247Sports site tweeted that Cassell said he is not committed to Maryland. ESPN.com also reported Monday that Cassell had withdrawn his pledge to the Terps.

Rivals.com's Jerry Meyer tweeted Friday that Cassell will visit South Florida this week and Florida State "some time later." Meyer said that Cassell is "open" but that "Maryland [is] still the leader."

The decision to visit other schools comes on the heels of Cassell's father telling CSNWashington.com last week that reports of his son's commitment were "false."

South Florida has a Baltimore connection in Eric Skeeters, a Bulls assistant and Coppin State grad who played at Woodlawn. Florida State, meanwhile, is the alma mater of Cassell Sr.

* Maryland-bound center Shaquille Cleare scored four points and grabbed five rebounds in his West squad's 84-72 loss to the East in the All-American Championship in New Orleans on Sunday.

* Ian Baker, a 2012 point guard from D.C. that received some Terps interest, committed last week to Providence.

"Providence offered and Ian accepted," said Arlington coach Rex Morgan. "He's a strong guard and that's what it takes in a league like the Big East."
