Kegasus to mortify Preakness race-goers again

He's ba-a-ack. Kegasus, that is. Apparently, you can't kill him. He's like Edward in the "Twilight" series, only with a beer gut and biker hair and a much lower IQ. Oh, and with a dopey new sidekick, too. (More on that in a moment.)

Yes, the Maryland Jockey Club just announced the return of Kegasus as, ahem "Lord of the Preakness InfieldFest and centerpiece of its' 2012 advertising campaign."

Which means the low-brow, beer-swilling, half-man, half-horse returns to make all sensible Marylanders cringe with embarrassment as the 137th running of the Preakness Stakes May 19 at Pimlico Race Course approaches.

As for Kegasus's new PR sidekick, he's ... well, I can't even describe him. Or it.

So let the MJC do it. Here's what race officials said of Kegasus's new pal in today's news release:

"Apparently every great Centaur needs a sidekick, and this year Kegasus has equipped himself with UniCarl. UniCarl is part human, part unicorn, part personal assistant and part personal trainer."

Hoo, boy. As for the back-story, the MJC has that covered as well:

"UniCarl and Kegasus met at the Genius Bar in the Towson Town Center's Mac store in May 2011 and have been traveling the world together ever since."

Nice to see the MJC take the high road in its ad campaign -- again. Classy way to sell the fabled middle jewel of racing's Triple Crown.
