Glenelg waited for a year for a rematch with Calvert, the team that ended the Gladiators' season in last year's Class 2A South region championship.
But their rematch in Friday night's regional final yielded the same result, as the Cavaliers defeated the No. 6 Gladiators 69-52 to advance to next week's state tournament.
If there is one consolation to losing again to the defending Class 2A state champions, it is this: "This time they beat us, we did not beat ourselves," Glenelg senior Danielle Burris said.
Two 3-pointers in the first quarter helped Glenelg get out to a 12-4 lead. But Calvert remained poised and tied the score, 16-all, at the end of the first quarter and then opened the second quarter with a 12-2 run.
Glenelg could never significantly whittle into the lead from that point on.
"They had an answer for everything we did, and they executed," Glenelg coach Don Beall said. "They're good, and they won the war in the paint."
Calvert's height advantage led to multiple second-chance opportuities. Playing just her third game back after sitting out a month due to injury sophomore Deijah Thomas scored 21 points to lead the Cavaliers.
"Right now she's a hard match up for anybody, and the team complements her," Calvert coach Frank Moore said.
Tiara Lester (17 points), Alexis Smith (14) and Jasmine Weems (10) also scored in double figures for the Cavaliers.
Emily Russo's 19 points led Glenelg.
