The final numbers from No. 8 Maryland’s 16-11 victory over Georgetown Friday night showed that the Terps collected just four more ground balls than the host Hoyas did.

But that was of little consolation to Georgetown coach Dave Urick.

“We need to get tougher when it’s on the ground,” he said in his post-game comments. “We need to be able to assert ourselves a little bit more.”

Then again, Maryland has a habit of befuddling opponents when it comes to collecting groundballs. The team has scooped up 86 ground balls in two contests, while opponents have managed to amass just 50.

Still, Urick was expecting a better showing from his players.

“When the ball’s on the ground, they’re a tough team, and that’s something that I like to think we’re capable of,” he said. “It wasn’t indicative today, that’s for sure, and that’s a concern and that’s something we need to address.”
