Blast to open Eastern finals at home on March 10
The Blast (15-6) will host the opening game of the Major Indoor Soccer League Eastern Division finals at 1st Mariner Arena on March 10. The Blast has clinched the regular-season division title and is waiting for either the Rochester Lancers or Syracuse Silver Knights to earn the second postseason berth. Game 2 will be March 12.
Honor: Blast forward Machel Millwood was named MISL Player of the Week. Millwood had a hat trick to lead the Blast to a 17-13 victory against the Milwaukee Wave on Saturday night.

Salvadoran U-23 team to play Maryland on March 11
With a large Salvadoran community, Washington has become a second home for El Salvador's soccer teams. And in the coming months, two of the country's national squads are scheduled to play in the D.C. area. On March 11, the under-23 team will continue preparations for the Olympic qualifying tournament later in the month by playing Maryland at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds at 2:30p.m. On June 2, El Salvador's senior national team, which has played in Washington almost annually for many years, will visit RFK Stadium for a friendly against an opponent to be determined, promoter Elias Polio said. A contract hasn't been signed, but Polio said he has reserved the stadium on that date. (D.C. United is off that weekend.) Polio is attempting to sign Honduras as El Salvador's opponent.

D.C. United: Individual tickets to all of United's 2012 Major League Soccer matches are now on sale. Tickets to any of the club's matches will be available via dcunited.com/tickets, 202-432-SEAT or any TicketMaster outlet. Also, United will begin Eastern Reserve League Conference play on the road against the New England Revolution on April 14. The club will play five road games and host the New York Red Bulls, Toronto FC, Montreal Impact, Philadelphia Union and Columbus Crew.
Women's soccer: D.C. United Women will open their 2012 W-League home regular season May 19 at 7 p.m. against the Virginia Beach Piranhas at the Maryland SoccerPlex.

Stanwick leads UVa. past VMI, 15-9, in men's lax
Steele Stanwick (Loyola High) had two goals and five assists to power the top-ranked Virginia men's lacrosse team to a 15-9 win over VMI (0-3) on Tuesday. The Keydets took a 1-0 lead before the Cavaliers (2-0) went on a 6-0 run.
Women's college lacrosse: Katie Leech had three goals and an assist as host Towson (1-0) won, 16-5, over Oregon (1-2). Andi Raymond and Kelly Custer also had hat tricks for the Tigers. ... Caitlin Lawrence (Catholic) and Julia Banks (F.S. Key) each had a goal in a losing effort as host Hood (1-1, 0-1 Capital Athletic Conference) fell, 20-2, to York (1-0, 1-0). ... Covie Stanwick (Notre Dame Prep) had three goals and an assist, but visiting No. 8 Boston College (1-1) was upset, 23-12, by No. 12 Syracuse (1-0). Alyssa Murray scored eight goals for the Orange to set a single-game school record.
Men's college basketball: Cameron Cook scored a game-high 27 points, including seven 3-pointers, to power visiting Hood (16-10) to an 85-69 victory over Wesley (12-14) in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament. Also in the opening round, Maurice Williams scored 13 points, but a second-half rally fell short as visiting Frostburg State (13-13) fell, 65-61, to York (16-10). ... Hood junior forward Justin Stone was named PrestoSports/Pride of Maryland Player of the Week. ... Washington College senior guard Kevin Breslin was chosen to the All-Centennial Conference first team for the second straight season. Women's college basketball: Freshman Anna Hackett scored 14 points to power host Salisbury (15-10) to a 62-56 win over Stevenson (10-16) in the first round of the CAC tournament. Sam Murray led the Mustangs with 13 points. In other first-round action, visiting St. Mary's (10-16) put up only 17 points in the first half and lost, 72-47, to Marymount (14-12). ... Washington College senior guard Meghan Tait was selected to the All-Centennial Conference first team. ... McDaniel freshman Steph Perez was named All-Centennial Conference honorable mention.
