Ex-Terp Langhorne stays with Mystics

WNBA All-Star forward Crystal Langhorne (Maryland) re-signed with the Washington Mystics. Langhorne led the team with 18.2points and 7.6 rebounds per game last season.

NFL: The Ravens hired Chris Hewitt on Thursday to be their assistant special teams coach and promoted Matt Weiss to defensive assistant. Hewitt, 37, a Cincinnati alumnus, spent the past eight years at Rutgers, including the past two as running backs coach. Weiss, 28, was the head coach's assistant for the Ravens the past three seasons.

Laurel Park: Saturday's $200,000 Barbara Fritchie Handicap was reduced to eight fillies and mares after long shot Terra Rolla was scratched. Erick Rodriguez picked up the mount on 6-1 shot Aquitania, who won four races at Laurel during the 2011 fall meeting.

Capitals: Washington recalled forward Keith Aucoin from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League.

Women's boxing: Baltimore's Franchon Crews avoided elimination at the U.S. Olympic trials Wednesday night when Virginia's Dara Shen pulled out of their losers' bracket fight with an apparent injury. In the flyweight competition, New York's Christina Cruz ran her record to 2-0 by outpointing Baltimore's Tyrieshia Douglas, 20-15.

Wizards: Blake Griffin had 23 points and 15 rebounds to help the host Los Angeles Clippers end Washington's two-game road winning streak with a 102-84 victory Wednesday night. John Wall had 18 points and 11 assists for the Wizards.
