2012 Tewaaraton Watch List released

The Tewaaraton Award released Wednesday its preliminary pool of candidates for the annual honor in 2012 and several area schools are represented.

Johns Hopkins and Navy are the only area programs with more than one candidate in the mix. Junior goalkeeper Pierce Bassett and junior midfielder John Ranagan represent the Blue Jays, while senior midfielder Nikk Davis and sophomore Sam Jones lead the Midshipmen.

The list also includes Loyola junior attackman Mike Sawyer, Maryland junior faceoff specialist Curtis Holmes and UMBC senior midfielder Rob Grimm.

Salisbury senior midfielder Sam Bradman is the only area candidate from Division III.

The list of players with ties to the area includes Princeton senior goalie Tyler Fiorito (Phoenix/McDonogh), Providence sophomore midfielder Andrew Barton (Timonium/ St. Paul’s), St. John’s junior goalkeeper Jeff Lowman (Millersville/Severna Park), Villanova junior attackman Jack Rice (Baltimore/Boys’ Latin) and Virginia senior attackman Steele Stanwick (Baltimore/Loyola).

The winner will be announced in June. Stanwick was named last year’s recipient.
