No. 11 City boys surprise No. 2 Dunbar, 53-49

Evan Singletary scored a game-high 20 points but they weren't enough. Visiting No. 11 City ran half-court sets, pounding the inside and upset No. 2 Dunbar, 53-49, on Friday in boys basketball.

The Knights (14-4) trailed in the opening quarter 14-11 but led at the end of every quarter after that. Dunbar tried a full-court press, but City broke it and ran its half-court offense, scoring points in the paint and outrebounding the Poets.

Omari George led City with 14 points.

No. 1 Lake Clifton 76, Douglass 52: The Lakers (17-3) used a man-to-man press against the visiting Ducks and took control of the game in the second quarter. Lake Clifton's Rodney Hawkins had 20 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots, and James Boone added 20 points and seven assists.

No. 7 Patterson 66, No. 6 Edmondson 59: The visiting Clippers (13-6) were led by Aquille Carr's 14 points and clinched a berth in the city championships with the victory over the Red Storm (14-4). Edmondson's Darius Walker led all scorers with 21 points. Patterson led 35-21 at the half.

No. 8 Forest Park 85, Mervo 52: De'Anthony McCormick had 24 points and 15 rebounds as the Foresters (14-1) routed the visiting Mustangs. Rysheed Corbin added 16 points and 12 assists in the win.

No. 9 Arundel 81, Southern 68: David Nicholson scored a game-high 31 points, including seven 3-pointers, to power the host Wildcats (20-0) past the Bulldogs. Eric Lindsay led Southern with 30 points.

No. 12 Glen Burnie 68, North County 63: The Gophers (18-2) blew a 20-point lead but managed to hold on and defeat the Knights (12-8) with clutch play down the stretch and Brandon Spain's 27 points and William Brown's 14.

Glenelg 68, No. 15 Marriotts Ridge 60: Troy Spurrier scored 20 points and the host Gladiators (6-14) held six- to eight-point leads in the final quarter against the Mustangs (16-2).

St. Frances 45, Loyola 44: The host Dons (10-17, 3-11 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference) put together a late rally, culminating with a 3-point buzzer-beater by Matt Dunn, but fell to the Panthers (19-6, 12-4).

Calvert Hall 68, Archbishop Spalding 61: Denzel Richardson and Justin Beck each scored 23 to power the visiting Cardinals (11-15, 6-9 MIAA A Conference) past the Cavaliers (16-13, 7-9).

Annapolis Area Christian School 70, Gilman 60: Taylor Leabhart scored 27 points and the visiting Eagles (15-11, 13-5 MIAA B Conference) upset the conference-leading Greyhounds (19-6, 16-2).

Randallstown 91, Owings Mills 89, 3OT: Justin Brice hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 5.2 seconds left to lift the host Rams over the Eagles.

Girls

No. 5 Dunbar 57, City 55: Down for most of the game, the Poets (14-6) switched to a triangle-and-one defense toward the end of the third quarter, stayed with it into the fourth and held off the Knights (14-5) in city league play.

Michelle Wright led Dunbar with 22 points and Brianna Lawson had 15, including 10 in the fourth quarter as the lead changed hands three times in the last 20 seconds. City led 25-24 at the half.

No. 13 Century 48, South Carroll 29: Angela Flister and Tess Nichols each scored nine points to lead the Carroll County-champion Knights (20-1) past the host Cavaliers. Tuesday's 37-21 win over Francis Scott Key secured the county title for Century.

No. 10 River Hill 31, No. 13 Meade 29: The visiting Mustangs (20-3) won the last two matches by forfeit, but Michael Beck (106) had a 10-0 major decision to lift the Hawks (31-6) to victory.

Ice hockey

Archbishop Spalding 5, Calvert Hall 2: The Cavaliers (9-1-3) scored four unanswered goals to win the MIAA A Conference championship at Piney Orchard Ice Arena.

Boys' Latin 3, St. Paul's 2: In the B Conference championship, the Lakers (8-4-1) captured their first title in nine years, beating the Crusaders (6-10).
