Annapolis Area Christian is one of the smallest schools in the Baltimore metro area, but its basketball teams raise a huge amount of money every year for breast cancer research.
In just three years, the Eagles and their various partner teams from other small schools have raised $22,000 for the JoAnn DeCesaris Cancer Institute in Annapolis with their Pink Out basketball event.
The event started with Grace Mercer, a basketball player who graduated in 2009. She put together the Eagles’ first Pink Out as part of her senior practicum, because her mother, Annie Mercer, is a breast cancer survivor.
Since the Eagles raised $780 with their first event, it has continued to grow.
This year, Annapolis Area will join with boys and girls teams from Glenelg Country School and St. John’s Catholic Prep to try to raise $10,000 with Saturday’s all-day Pink Out.
Here is the information sent out by the school about how to support the Annapolis Area Christian Pink Out effort:
1. Attend the games on Saturday. Feb. 4. Admission from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. is $3 for adults and $1 for students. Admission from 4 to 10 p.m. is $5 for adults and $2 for students. All games will be played at AACS Upper School Campus at 109 Burns Crossing Road, Severn, MD 21144.

2. Buy a Pink Out T-Shirt for $10. T-Shirt Sizes: Youth medium to adult 3XL. Shirts are available at all three campuses at AACS and at the Glenelg Country School.
3. Sponsor a player in the Free-Throw-A-Thon. Players from each team will shoot 20 free throws and record the total shots made. Beforehand, players will seek out people to sponsor them for each free throw they make out of the 20. Each player should set a goal to raise $25.
