Roundup: UMBC men fall to Hartford for 4th loss in row

The visiting UMBC men's basketball team continued to struggle Tuesday night, losing to Hartford, 74-57.

The Retrievers (2-15, 1-4 America East) have lost four straight, and the Hawks (4-14, 4-2) are on a two-game winning streak.

UMBC, led by Ryan Cook with 12 points, kept things close at first. The Retrievers took their fourth and final lead on a three-point play by Quentin Jones for a 19-18 lead with 8:30 left in the first half. It was all Hawks after that, with their lead going from six points at halftime to 18 in the second half.

Andres Torres led Hartford with 16 points, and Wes Cole had 13.

Women

Goucher 53, Valley Forge Christian 46: Sharnell Huff scored 21 points in a come-from-behind win for the host Gophers (5-11). The Patriots (8-11) led 18-4 before Goucher rallied.

Washington College 70, Bryn Mawr 33: Sally O'Donnell became the first woman in Centennial Conference history to register 172 career 3-pointers and 100 career blocks.

The visiting Shorewomen (10-5, 5-5) scored 26 unanswered points in the first half and have won eight of nine games. The Owls fell to 0-13, 0-10.

Gettysburg 73, McDaniel 51: The host Bullets (8-8, 6-5 Centennial) used a 16-3 run in the first half to break away. Rachel Rybak (Reisterstown) led the Green Terror (7-9, 4-8) with 11 points.
