PLAYERS TO WATCH
Glen Burnie: William Brown, Sr. F; Brandon Spain, Sr., G; Clarence Watkins, Sr. G.
Arundel: David Nicholson, Sr. G; Darien Bryant, So., F; Austin Carroll, Jr., G.
Outlook: The Gophers head to Arundel on a roll, highlighted by a character-building 73-69 double-overtime victory over South Carroll to win their J.T. Bogle Invitational on Tuesday. Brown (14 ppg., 11 rpg.) had a monster performance in the win, going for 35 points, 10 rebounds, five blocks and four steals. While he’s provided consistent play inside, the Gophers also have a dynamic guard tandem in Spain (19 ppg., 5.4 steals) and Watkins (13 ppg.). The Wildcats counter with Nicholson (17.8 ppg., 5.5 rpg) and Bryant (14.8 ppg., 7.8 rpg.) with Carroll (7 ppg.) another scoring option. Defense has been the starting point for the Gophers’ success, and containing Nicholson will be the first task. Starr said the keys for the Wildcats will be limiting Brown inside and any easy points for the Gophers in transition. Taking care of the basketball and rebounding are musts for both teams.
