Curley running back Avery Williams commits to Temple

Archbishop Curley running back Avery Williams has committed to play football for Temple after making his official visit last week.

An All-Metro second-team selection, Williams opted for Temple over offers from Delaware State, Morgan State and Stony Brook. East Carolina, Duke and West Virginia also had recently shown interest, said Curley coach Sean Murphy.

Williams ran for 1,325 yards and scored 12 touchdowns this fall for the Friars, who finished 7-4 and made the B Conference playoffs. He also had 46 tackles.

Also named second team All-State in the small schools division and selected All-MIAA B Conference, Williams will be the fourth Curley player to sign with a Division school since 2008 following Jerome Junior (Connecticut), Eric Franklin (Maryland) and Joe Petrides (Akron).
