Pollin's widow wouldn't mind return to Bullets name

Wizards: Abe Pollin's widow and former team co-owner said recently that she wouldn't object if the new owner Ted Leonsis decided to return the team name to the Bullets. "I respect my husband's wishes. I love him very much. I miss him terribly. If the fans want to change it back — hey, why not?" Irene Pollin said. "To me, it's what do the fans want? What's going to please them? To me, they're the ones who support, care." Abe Pollin, who died in November 2009, changed the name from Bullets to Wizards in 1997, partly because he didn't want the team to be associated with gun violence. Leonsis has consistently made public comments that he has no plans of going back to the Bullets, but some fans have clamored for the change.

Trade: The Memphis Grizzlies traded backup point guard Greivis Vasquez (Maryland) to the New Orleans Hornets for forward Quincy Pondexter. Vasquez, the Grizzlies' first-round pick in the 2010 draft, averaged 3.6 points, 2.2 assists and 12.3 minutes as a rookie. "Greivis is an exciting big guard that plays with a passion that we hope will thrill our fans at the Hive," Hornets general manager Dell Demps said. Demps had been in the market for a backup to point guard Jarrett Jack, who had moved into a starting role after Chris Paul was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. Pondexter, who averaged 2.8 points and 1.3 rebounds as a rookie last season, figures to back up Rudy Gay (Archbishop Spalding) at small forward for the Grizzlies; he had 14 points and 12 rebounds against Memphis in a preseason game Wednesday. Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace told the Memphis Commercial Appeal that Vasquez was stunned by the news. "Anybody who gets traded for the first time is stunned," Wallace said. "Heck, Pau Gasol was stunned. But this is a great opportunity for Greivis with the Hornets' backcourt situation."

Hopkins' Suter an NSCAA Scholar All-American

Johns Hopkins senior midfielder Erica Suter (River Hill) made the National Soccer Coaches Association of America College Division Scholar All-America women's second team. Suter, an international studies major, has a 3.33 GPA.
