BCPS' Belinko chosen for national honor

The National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association will present its Frank Kovaleski Professional Development Award to Ron Belinko, Baltimore County Public Schools' longtime coordinator of athletics, during a ceremony today at the 42nd annual National Athletic Directors Conference in Indianapolis. Belinko, who retired earlier this year after a 45-year career, served as the school system's coordinator of athletics for the past 17 years. He now works as an interscholastic athletics consultant for the system. The award is presented each year to those who make significant contributions to and demonstrate excellence in professional development. On Dec. 6, the Board of Education of Baltimore County honored Belinko with both a commendation and a standing ovation from Superintendent Joe A. Hairston, board President Lawrence Schmidt and those at the meeting of the board. Belinko credited current and former colleagues, including six superintendents, with helping him support the county's athletics program. Belinko is an inductee of the Eastern Tech Athletic Hall of Fame, the Maryland State Wrestling Hall of Fame and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
