Annapolis Area Christian School football coach Ken Lucas has been added to the staff of the United States Under-19 team which will compete in the International Bowl Feb. 1 in Austin, Texas.
Lucas, in his fifth season with the Eagles, led them to the MIAA B Conference championship this fall. He has also coached at Gonzaga and Archbishop Carroll and was an assistant coach at Georgetown University. In 2010, the Eagles were the Annapolis Touchdown Club’s Team of the Year after winning their second straight MIAA C Conference title.
Team USA, which includes Gilman lineman Brian Gaia, will compete in the third annual International Bowl against players from four continents. Steve Specht, of St. Xavier in Cincinnati, is the head coach.
“I’m coaching the sport that I love – this is what I do,” Lucas said in a news release. “Representing our country as part of Coach Specht’s National Team staff is the cherry on top. I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to Team USA and to learn from the other coaches.
“Any time you can engage with people on an international level is a great life experience, and the fact that I’m doing it in a sport I love is a blessing.”
