Police: Brown's cause of death still unknown
A Baltimore police spokesman says it will take some time to determine the cause of death for former Ravens offensive tackle Orlando "Zeus" Brown. Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said Saturday that there were no obvious signs of trauma or foul play and no suspicious factors surrounding Brown's death. He said it might be weeks before the cause of death becomes clear. Brown was found dead Friday at his home near the Inner Harbor. He was 40.

Report: Terps lose out to Stanford on guard Sanders
A prime Maryland target at shooting guard is apparently off the board. According to media reports, Christian Sanders committed to Stanford on Friday. A three-star prospect from St.Thomas High in Houston, Sanders was recruited by Mark Turgeon at Texas A&M, and the pursuit continued at Maryland. Sanders, a teammate of Terps pledge Shaquille Cleare on the AAU Houston Defenders, also had offers from Colorado, Oklahoma State and Vanderbilt, among others. Another prospect with Terps interest also made his decision Friday night. Elijah Macon, a four-star power forward from Columbus, Ohio, committed to West Virginia.

Dennis sets Mount D-I single-game goals record
Freshman Zoncher Dennis set a Mount St. Mary's Division I record with four goals in a 5-0 rout of visiting La Salle. Dennis, who entered the game with two goals, scored in the 12th, 17th, 36th and 51st minutes.
More men's games: John Stertzer scored in the 29th minute and Casey Townsend in the 49th to give top-ranked Maryland (8-0-1, 3-0-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) a 2-0 victory at Virginia Tech (3-5-0, 1-2-0). Kaoru Forbess had both assists. … Sean Rothe (Archbishop Curley) and Pete Caringi III (Calvert Hall) scored in a 46-second span in the second half as visiting UMBC (3-2-2) erased a 1-0 halftime deficit and went on to a 3-1 victory at Longwood (3-4-1). Kingsley Onwuka (CCBC-Essex/Kenwood) added a goal in the 67th minute as the Retrievers ended a three-game winless streak. … William Cavallo scored in the 53rd minute to lift host Quinnipiac (2-3) to a 1-0 victory over Loyola (5-2-1), ending the Greyhounds' five-game unbeaten streak in their final nonconference game. … Paul Wyatt scored twice, helping host James Madison (4-1-1) spoil the Colonial Athletic Association season opener for Towson (1-4-1) with a 3-0 victory. … Navy (4-2-2) earned a scoreless tie with host Lafayette (4-2-2) in both teams' Patriot League opener despite outshooting the Leopards 14-9.
Friday's women: Loyola (2-8-0) lost its final nonconference match of the season, 1-0, at La Salle (7-0-1). Gabriella Carbone scored in the 20th minute, firing a shot from 30yards out that beat keeper Danielle Ippolito to the top-right corner of the net. Ippolito made three saves in her season debut after recovering from an injury.

UM rolls to 100th win at home field hockey facility
The No. 3 Maryland field hockey team (8-1, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) earned its 100th win at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex on Saturday with a 5-0 victory over Wake Forest (1-7, 0-2 ACC). Megan Frazer and Jill Witmer each scored twice in the win.
High school football: Ray Lewis III, a junior at Lake Mary Prep in Orlando, Fla., broke his school rushing record with 384 yards and five touchdowns on 27 attempts Sept. 16. In doing so, the son of All-Pro Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis led his team to a 60-36 victory. Lewis III's previous record was 272 yards rushing in a game last season.
