Eighttofasttocatch won the $75,000 Japan Racing Association Stakes for 3-year-olds and up Saturday at Laurel Park, covering the mile on the main track in 1 minute, 35.43 seconds. Comet of Love earned her 11th victory in 23 starts by taking the co-featured $60,000 Jameela Stakes for fillies and mares. … Apprentice rider Aparna Battula is expected to miss six to eight weeks after suffering a compression fracture in her back in a Friday spill.

Dunbar forfeits Southwestern game

No. 4 Dunbar had to forfeit Saturday's game against Southwestern as a consequence of a bench-clearing brawl that broke out in the final minutes of last weekend's game against Dunbar- D.C. at the I-95 Kickoff Classic at Morgan State. Poets coach Lawrence Smith said every player who leaves the bench in a situation like that receives a one-game suspension and too many players were suspended to field a team for Saturday's game. Smith said Poets officials would not appeal the suspensions, which he said are automatic under both Baltimore City and Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association rules.

Big field of stars signed up for Charm City Heroes 2

Pete Rose, Reggie Jackson and Rafael Palmeiro are listed as the special guests at the Charm City Heroes 2 autograph show Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at the Pikesville Hilton on Reisterstown Road. Other signers will include Baltimore Colts Hall of Famers Art Donovan, Raymond Berry, Lenny Moore and Gino Marchetti; 1966 World Series-winning Orioles such as Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson and Jim Palmer; Ravens such as Ray Lewis, Jonathan Ogden and Ray Rice; Super Bowl V Colts, including Mike Curtis, Ted Hendricks and Earl Morrall; and jockeys, including Stevie Cauthen, Ron Turcotte and Pat Day. Golf: Brendan Kelly birdied the 17th hole for a 1-up lead and he and partner Jeff Lim-Sharpe held on to defeat Andrew Rice-Brett Williams to earn three points in the final pairing and give Washington a 101/2-71/2 victory over Baltimore in the Maryland State Golf Association team match at Bulle Rock.

Men's college soccer: Andy Streilein scored with five seconds left in regulation to enable host UMBC (2-0-2) to earn a 1-1 tie against Navy (1-2-2). … Vegard Vinje's goal in the 85th minute lifted host Loyola to a 1-0 victory over St.Francis (Pa.). … Sean Peckham scored on a cross in the 88th minute to give host Lafayette a 1-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's in the Lafayette Puma Soccer Classic on Friday night.

College field hockey: No. 3 Maryland (4-1) shut out Northwestern, 3-0, in the first game of the Terrapin Invitational for its 34th straight victory at the Field Hockey & Complex. Maxine Fluharty, Katie Gerzabek and Jill Witmer scored.
