Willis McGahee involuntarily took a seven-figure pay cut when the Ravens released him shortly after the NFL lockout ended. The running back signed a three-year deal with the Broncos reportedly worth $7.5 million, including $3 million guaranteed, and it sounds as if he is hammering out a niche with Kyle Orton and the offense.

At Thursday’s practice, though, an errant throw from Orton sailed out of the back of the end zone and hit a car in the players’ parking lot. It was McGahee’s Porsche and the damage done was a shattered windshield. So why am I relaying this news to you? McGahee’s reaction was, well… I’ll let you supply the adjective.

According to one reporter, McGahee walked over to his high-priced German sports car, surveyed the damage and then remarked that it was no big deal because he needed a new car anyway. Seriously? As it turns out, team officials told The Denver Post that insurance -- and not Kyle Orton -- would cover the bill.

Anyway, I’m going to assume McGahee was kidding, mainly because I don’t really want to believe that an athlete would buy a new sports car because of a shattered windshield, especially not after we heard the players talk all summer about how they were hurting for cash and could hardly afford to make their Kia car payments on time.

You don’t think the players (and the owners) were exaggerating a little bit, do you? Nah, me neither.
