Stallion Two Punch euthanized at age 28
Two Punch, one of the state's most important stallions to stand during the past quarter-century, was euthanized Saturday at Northview Stallion Station in Chesapeake City because of infirmities related to old age. The son of Mr. Prospector was 28. Named Maryland's Stallion of the Year in 1994, 1995 and 1997, Two Punch sired the earners of more than $49 million. His runners earned more than $1 million a year every year from 1992 to 2010, and his 2011 earnings exceeded $700,000.
Harness racing: Rhea Nourrir, Whos Up Whos Down and Nuts and Jolts won the three divisions of the Bob Mitchell Memorial Pacing Series on Sunday at Ocean Downs in Berlin, just west of http://www.baltimoresun.com/travel/beaches/. Monday's card was rained out. Racing is to resume Wednesday at 7 p.m.
United makes two trades, lands All-Star De Rosario
D.C. United acquired five-time Major League Soccer All-Star Dwayne De Rosario in a trade with the New York Red Bulls on Monday. The 33-year-old Canadian international has won four MLS Cups, two with the San Jose Earthquakes and two with the Houston Dynamo, and has 80 career MLS goals. United gave up midfielder Dax McCarty in the deal. … In a separate move Monday, United acquired defender Brandon McDonald from San Jose in exchange for allocation money.

Loyola lacrosse coach Adams honored by IWLCA
After leading her team to the NCAA quarterfinals in 2011, Loyola women's lacrosse coach Jen Adams has been named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year by her peers. In her third season at Loyola, Adams guided the Greyhounds to their first NCAA tournament berth since 2004, a school-record-tying 17 victories in 20 games and their first-ever Big East championship.
Division III women's lacrosse: Salisbury's Jim Nestor was named IWLCA Chesapeake Region Coach of the Year for the seventh time. Nestor led the Sea Gulls to a 19-3 overall record in 2011, including an 8-0 mark in the Capital Athletic Conference.
More women's lacrosse: American Lacrosse Conference commissioner Peggy Pruitt retired after 10 years of service with the league. The ALC has six members, including Johns Hopkins.
Men's lacrosse: Nine Navy players made the Patriot League academic honor roll, including junior Darren Pastrana (St. Mary's) and senior Kevin Doyle (Gilman). The others were Marty Gallagher, Michael Hirsch, Erik Hoffstadt, Taylor Reynolds, Brian Striffler, Logan West and Paul Zimmerman.

League-high 10 Bayhawks make MLL All-Star Game
The Chesapeake Bayhawks had 10 players named to the Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game, the most of any team. Selected were attackman Danny Glading; midfielders Matt Abbott, Kyle Dixon (Archbishop Spalding), Ben Hunt (Severna Park) and Michael Kimmel (Johns Hopkins, Loyola High); defensemen Michael Evans (Johns Hopkins, South River), Kyle Hartzell (Salisbury) and Alex Smith (Boys' Latin); and goalies Brian Phipps (Maryland, Severn) and Chris Garrity. Smith and Garrity will not play because of injuries. The All-Star Game will be July9 at Harvard Stadium in Cambridge, Mass. The sides will be chosen the night before.
Baltimore Summer League Basketball: Tark's Grill defeated Rohd Group, 111-75, behind 28 points from Erik Etherly (Loyola) on Sunday. Jordan Latham (Loyola, City) scored 21 for Rohd Group. Byron Westmoreland (Bowie State, Mervo) scored 20 points to help the Hotshots to an 87-37 rout of The Smyth Diamonds, who got 13 from Julius Brooks (Loyola U.). Abacus got 15 points from Theo West (BCCC) in a 90-60 victory over the Blazers, who received 24points from Deon Queen (St. Mary's, Long Reach).
Baseball: Former Frostburg State pitcher Greg Ross (Loch Raven) picked up the win in his professional debut for the Danville Braves of the Rookie-level Appalachian League on Friday. Selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 18th round of this month's draft, Ross pitched three innings of relief, striking out two in the 9-8 victory over the Bluefield Blue Jays.
