Perennial All-Star midfielder Paul Rabil fired in five goals to lead the host Boston Cannons to a 17-13 victory over the Chesapeake Bayhawks on Saturday night. Rabil, a Johns Hopkins graduate who has one of the hardest, most accurate shots in the game, got time and space too often in repeatedly scoring from the perimeter.

Attackman Danny Glading (Georgetown Prep) scored three goals for the Bayhawks, and midfielder Steven Brooks had two goals, one of which was a 2-pointer.

Attackman Ben Rubeor scored two goals, while midfielder Michael Kimmel (Johns Hopkins) had a goal and an assist for the Bayhawks (2-1), who fell behind 8-3 midway through the second quarter and had to play catch-up the rest of the way.

Attackman Max Quinzani had a goal and an assist during a 5-0 Boston run to open the second period. Brooks closed the first half with a 2-pointer to give the visiting Bayhawks some momentum, and Rubeor opened the third quarter with an unassisted goal as Chesapeake pulled within two at 9-7.

However, Rabil responded with two straight goals to push the Boston advantage back to 11-7 and Chesapeake never got closer than three the rest of the way. Veteran Chris Garrity started in goal for the Bayhawks and made six saves. Rookie Brian Phipps (Maryland, Severn) took over between the pipes in the second half and stopped 13 shots.

Quinzani finished with three goals and three assists for Boston (2-1). Midfielder Brad Ross scored three goals while goalie Jordan Burke made 13 saves for the Cannons.
