Hopkins installing HD video board at Homewood Field

Johns Hopkins announced Wednesday that a new integrated high-definition video board will be installed at Homewood Field this summer and be ready for use at the start of the fall season. Removal of the current scoreboard at Homewood Field began Tuesday. The new video display will measure approximately 14 feet high by 48 feet wide. Featuring 15HD pixel layout, the display will be used for Johns Hopkins football, field hockey, lacrosse and soccer, and is capable of showing one large image or being divided into separate windows to show live and recorded video as well as an array of vivid graphics.

Navy: Navysports.com is holding a sports memorabilia auction that will end tonight at 7. Fans can go to navysports.cstvauctions.com/gallery.cfm to view and bid on items. Items up for bid include a No.50 jersey (XL) signed by David Robinson combined with a basketball poster signed by members of the 1986 Elite Eight Navy basketball team; a football autographed by 1960 Heisman Trophy winner Joe Bellino; the last five Army-Navy game programs; a baseball and poster signed by the 1961 Navy baseball team, including Bellino; an authentic Nike game-worn baseball jersey (No. 23), a Navy women's basketball jersey from this year's NCAA tournament team and an autographed basketball from women's basketball coach Stefanie Pemper.

Women's lacrosse: Recent Navy graduate Caitlin Mandrin Hill (St. Mary's) was selected to compete in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association North-South Senior All-Star Game. Joining her on the South squad are Johns Hopkins midfielder Brooke Foussadier, UMBC midfielder Amanda Pappas and Maryland defender Brittany Poist. Area players on the North team are Towson attacker Jessica Dunn, Towson defender Megan Fitzgerald, Loyola midfielder Cara Filippelli, Loyola attacker Caroline Hager and Loyola midfielder Abby Rehfuss. The North-South game will be held at the United Sports Training Center in Downington, Pa., on June 11 at noon. … In Division III, Salisbury senior attacker Trish DiGirolomo (Archbishop Spalding) was named a first-team All-American, and senior defender Liz Filgueras received second-team All-American honors from the IWLCA.

Men's lacrosse: Lehigh senior midfielder Jonathan Stumpf (Centennial) was named a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Scholar All-American.

Baseball: After coaching at UMBC for a school-record 34 years, coach John Jancuska has resigned. Jancuska amassed a UMBC-best 673 career victories, led Retrievers teams to five NCAA tournament appearances and was named Coach of the Year in all four of UMBC's conferences at the NCAA Division I level. He was inducted into the UMBC Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010. … Frostburg State senior Greg Ross (Loch Raven) was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-America first team, marking his second All-America award.

UMBC trio take part in Bowling Congress championships

Three former members of the UMBC women's bowling team were among the field as the United States Bowling Congress women's championships reached the halfway point of its 88-day run this week. Kristina Frahm, Martha Perez and Jessica (Worsley) Bond each competed in the event. Frahm was the most successful of the trio, placing in a tie for 49th overall in the All Events category of the Diamond-Classic Division. She posted a 2,053, one pin out of 47th.

Capitals: The team signed free-agent center Mattias Sjogren to a two-year entry-level contract beginning next season.

Wizards: Former Georgetown guard Austin Freeman, who starred at DeMatha, is scheduled to conduct a pre-draft workout today at 9 a.m. at the Verizon Center.

D.C. United: The United Soccer Club event was rescheduled because of weather concerns and will be held Friday and June 10 from 4:30p.m. to 7:15p.m. on the RFK Stadium training field. The event will feature matches, player autographs, D.C. United mascot Talon, carnival games, music and more. … The club's academy teams went a perfect 6-0 in matches last weekend as the under-15s secured a spot in the Pre-Academy Playoffs, to be played Friday to Sunday in Pennsylvania.

Kastles: Comcast SportsNet will televise live six of the team's matches this July, including four home and two away, beginning with opening night July 5 against Kansas City at Kastles Stadium.
