Roundup: Hebron girls hold off Centennial, 9-8, to move to 3A-2A South final

No. 13 Mount Hebron was leading 6-4 with two minutes left in the first half of a Class 3A-2A South regional semifinal Monday when lightning postponed the game. In Tuesday's continuation, the Vikings (16-1) never got more than one or two goals ahead of Centennial, but it was enough for a 9-8 win at Cedar Lane Park.

Kara O'Rourke led Mount Hebron with three goals.

Rachel Benzing (two goals) scored with 10 seconds left to bring the Eagles within one, but they could not get a game-tying goal off in the time left.

Mount Hebron returns to Cedar Lane Park today at 3:30 p.m. to face No. 5 Marriotts Ridge in the regional final.

Boys lacrosse

Friends 9, Sts. Peter & Paul 1: Mike Sweet and Dave Magdeburger had three goals and two goals, respectively, to power the host Quakers (17-1) past the Sabres in an Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference semifinal.

Softball

No. 6 Howard 5, Mount Hebron 0: Right-hander Sami O'Connor (9-1) gave up three hits and struck out nine for the win as the host Lions (18-2) advanced past the Vikings (9-9) in a Class 3A East quarterfinal.

Sami Travisano went 2-for-3 and Sage McGrann hit a triple in the fourth inning to power the Howard offense.
