Wilson lifts No. 9 Fallston over No. 8 Roland Park in OT, 14-13

Ninth-ranked Fallston's Abby Wilson had just a split-second to glance at the clock while on the attack in the second, three-minute overtime Saturday against No. 8 Roland Park.

With the scoreboard flasing 16 seconds, Wilson made a run at the goal and fired a shot into the corner for a 14-13 victory.

"They are so talented down here in the [Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland], but to come down and play well builds your confidence and shows you can play with anyone," Fallston coach Michael McTeague said. "We've been improving all year long, but this really culiminates a good stretch."

Sam Nolan led visiting Fallston with five goals and Heather Summers added a hat trick in the marquee nonconference win.

Betsy Angel and Caroline Seats each scored four goals and Audrey Todd added three for Roland Park (14-6). Courtney Laubach, Jenna Mosketti and Wilson each had two goals for Fallston (10-1), but none bigger than the winner with 12 seconds remaining. Wilson also had three assists.

"I saw an opening and I took it," Wilson said. "Everything just worked out perfect and opened up and I just went in. There was 16 seconds left, so I thought it was a good time."

The game was a see-saw battle throughout regulation and overtime and was tied seven times. Fallston opened a 4-1 lead with 16:14 left in the first half — the largest lead of the game.

However, Roland Park continued to chip away and took its first lead, 6-5, on a free position goal by Audrey Todd. Another goal by Nolan later gave Fallston an 8-7 lead at the half.

"Overall, I think we played great as team," Roland Park coach Reagan Raneri said. "I just think we made some mistakes we keep repeating and we need to fix those. We had a few individual breakdowns and that pretty much changed the game."

A goal by Angel gave Roland Park an 11-9 lead with 12:02 left in the game. However, Nolan scored for Fallston seven minutes later and Summers tied the game with 1:26 left to force overtime.

Laubach scored twice in the final two minutes of the first, three-minute overtime to give Fallston its fist lead since the first half, 13-11. Seats and Todd scored 1:08 apart to force another tie. Wilson then got the winner.

Fallston goalie Jordan Wagner had 11 saves in the second half and overtime to keep Fallston within striking distance.

"They just have an amazing offense, but it was good defense on our part," Wagner said. "I was just saving the ball."
