Girls indoor track: Coach of the Year

Shedrick Elliott

Western Tech

He didn't do it with smoke and mirrors — although that seemed to be the case at times.

Elliott relied heavily on the format that has helped the Wolverines in the past few years since he took over — find the best places for athletes and try to develop younger kids.

Even though Western Tech is a Class 1A school, it came in second in Baltimore County's title meet. The Wolverines then went on to win the Class 1A Central Region title and the state championship without much trouble.

Elliott loves to give kids a chance to grow and help the team at the same time. Ninth-graders Taylor Martin, Rebeka Holt and Sharon Dorsey all helped a lot, as did sophomore Monika Dawson, junior Ashley Linton and senior Niema Eaves.

"They've all got roles," he said. "We're trying to get points."
