The Blast's Morris, Sagu, Kelly earn MISL honors

The Major Indoor Soccer League announced today that Baltimore Blast stars Pat Morris and Sagu and Coach Danny Kelly each received league honors for leading the Blast to a 15-5 regular-season record and an appearance in the championship game Friday.

Morris has been voted the defender of the year. The 33-year-old native of Philadelphia recently completed his 12th indoor soccer season, his first with Baltimore, and is awaiting his third championship appearance. Morris ranked second in the MISL with 36 blocks and tied for 10th with 42 points.

Sagu has been voted the goalkeeper of the year. The 38-year-old native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, led the league with 14 wins and will be in the net Friday when the Blast host the Milwaukee Wave. A member of three previous Blast championship teams, Sagu started the season with five straight wins and went on an eight-game win streak from Jan. 21 to Feb. 27. He held the Blast's opponents to less than 10 points eight times this season and was named MISL Goalkeeper of the Month in November, December and February. Sagu also won goalkeeper of the year honors after the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons.

Kelly has been voted coach of the year. In his five-plus seasons as the team's coach, the Blast has a 76-47 regular season record and a 10-4 postseason record. This is his second coach of the year honor.
