Ravens' Matt Birk and his support for the pro-life cause

It's been a busy week for Ravens players speaking out in support of their respective causes.

Linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo backed same-sex marriage for Equality Maryland last Tuesday. Wide receiver Derrick Mason said today that "marriage is between a man and a woman." And on Sunday at the Maryland March for Life in Annapolis, center Matt Birk was a featured speaker at the pro-life event.

Birk, a six-time Pro Bowler, told The Catholic Review that faith (he's Catholic) and fatherhood (he has five kids) are his reasons for being a long-time opponent of abortion.

"Life is a gift that’s given to us. We are supposed to accept it," Birk said. "It’s not our choice whether we decide a baby lives or not."

The 34-year-old told The Catholic Review that Sunday's march was “one of the coolest things I’ve done," adding that it was even better than running out onto the field at M&T Bank Stadium.
