Loyola men drop finale, get Saint Peter's in MAAC tourney
Visiting Loyola (15-14, 10-8) squandered an 11-point lead 13 minutes into the game and a six-point halftime advantage and lost, 75-58, to Canisius (15-14, 9-9) in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season finale Sunday. The Greyhounds will be the fifth seed in the MAAC tournament in Bridgeport, Conn., and will play fourth-seeded Saint Peter's on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Brian Rudolph finished with team highs of 14 points and 10 rebounds for Loyola; it was his first career double double. Dylon Cormier (Cardinal Gibbons) and Erik Etherly each scored 11, and Justin Drummond added 10 off the bench.
Junior College: Third-seeded Baltimore City Community College (20-11) lost, 82-78, to top-seeded Cecil (28-5) in the National Junior College Athletic Association Region XX tournament championship game in Hagerstown despite 21points from Micah Fraction. The Seahawks sealed the game when Harold Washington connected on the first of two free throws and teammate Jermaine Edwards scored on the put-back with 11 seconds left. Cecil (28-5) will be the Region XX Division II representative at the NJCAA tournament.
Women: Visiting Saint Peter's (5-24, 5-13) held off a rally to escape with a 60-57 upset of Loyola (18-11, 15-3) in the regular-season MAAC finale. The Greyhounds will be the second seed at the conference tournament and will play at 9:30 a.m. Friday in Bridgeport, Conn., against the winner of No. 7 Canisius-No. 10 Niagara. Loyola's Miriam McKenzie (Oakland Mills) led all scorers with 17 points, and Katie Sheahin had 12 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. … Visiting Drexel (17-11, 9-8 Colonial Athletic Association) used a 15-4 run in the second half to pull away from Towson (9-19, 3-14) and earn a 58-47 win. Sheree Ledbetter led the Tigers with 13 points, and Krystal Parnell added 10. Towson will finish its regular-season schedule at Delaware at 7 p.m. Wednesday. …Top-seeded and host Johns Hopkins (21-5) was outscored by 12 points in the second half in losing, 72-61, to second-seeded Muhlenberg (21-5) in the Centennial Conference championship game. The Mules earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament; the Blue Jays will learn their NCAA fate today.

Smith's OT goal lifts Delaware; Notre Dame defeats Penn St.
Delaware junior Eric Smith (Boys' Latin) scored the game-winner with 53 seconds left in overtime as the No. 20 Blue Hens (4-1) posted a 12-11 victory over visiting Bellarmine (2-1). Smith finished his five-point day by rifling a 10-yard shot from the right side off a pass from Garrett Johnson. The Knights trailed by four goals with 5:16 left in regulation.
More national men: Sophomore John Kemp made eight saves and Notre Dame (2-0) got a goal apiece from six players to earn a 6-2 victory at Penn State (1-1). The Fighting Irish led 3-2 after three quarters before pulling away in the final 15 minutes on goals by junior Max Pfeifer, freshman Westy Hopkins and junior Eric Keppeler.
State men: BCC-Essex is ranked third in the NJCAA poll, trailing Onondaga CC and Nassau CC. Anne Arundel CC is sixth, Howard CC eighth and Harford CC 10th.
State women: Freshman Aimee Gennaro scored four goals as host Navy (5-0) earned an 11-8 victory over High Point (1-2). The Midshipmen took a 9-3 lead by scoring the first three goals of the second half. Sophomore Claire Olechowski (St. Mary's) had a career-high five ground balls and caused five turnovers. … Visiting Temple (1-1) emerged with a 9-5 victory over Mount St. Mary's (0-3), which got two goals apiece from freshman Lindsay Diaz (Dulaney) and senior Nicole Price (North Harford). ... Senior Colleen Cole scored seven goals in a game for the second time in her career in leading host Goucher (1-1) to a 16-14 triumph over Virginia Wesleyan (1-2). … Senior Lisa Baker (Westminster) tied her career-high with seven points on four goals and three assists, but Stevenson (1-1) came up short, 10-9, in its home opener against Washington and Lee (3-0), ranked No.16 in Division III.

Towson women win CAA swimming-diving title again
Senior Meredith Budner was named Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet after helping Towson become the second team to win four straight Colonial Athletic Association women's swimming and diving championships Saturday night in Fairfax, Va. The Tigers outdistanced James Madison by 92.5 points, 700 to 607.50. Budner claimed her second NCAA "A" cut time when she took home first place in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 15 minutes, 52.05 seconds, breaking the school record by more than 14 seconds while also eclipsing her CAA and CAA championship record. It was the second fastest time recorded by any swimmer in the nation this year, according to CollegeSwimming.com.
College baseball: Senior left-hander Eric Potter gave up four hits in 71/3 innings as host Maryland (5-3) completed a three-game sweep of Army (1-5) with a 3-1 win Sunday.
