Baltimore's Olympic Aquaman Michael Phelps hasn't made much noise in a swimming pool since his record haul in Beijing. Even a heart-warming deed done last month for a sick 11-year-old boy from Illinois somehow managed to go unnoticed until now.

On Jan. 27, the Make a Wish Foundation flew Logan Mitzel, a sixth-grader battling Duchenne’s (a fatal form of muscular dystrophy), from Aurora, Ill. to Baltimore to meet his hero.

It turned out to be more than just a meet and greet. According to The Beacon-News, Phelps, a Rodgers Forge native, invited Mitzel and his brother into the pool with him after one of his workouts. They swam together for an hour and Phelps and Mitzel challenged each other to a friendly race.

For every lap Mitzel had to do, Phelps had to do seven. And the 11-year-old edged out the 14-time gold medalist by a pool length (though I'm guessing Phelps didn't go all out in this one).
