Drummond's 3-pointers rally Loyola past Siena, 76-69

Freshman guard Justin Drummond made back-to-back 3-pointers to ignite a 12-0 run and five Greyhounds scored in double figures to carry Loyola (12-11, 8-5 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) to a 76-69 win at Siena (10-13, 7-6) on Monday night. After the Saints used a 15-2 run to take a 58-50 lead with 12:10 remaining, the Greyhounds answered with nine straight points over the next 3:22 to go up 59-58 on two free throws by junior guard J'hared Hall. Siena led responded with seven of the next nine points for a 65-61 lead with 5:13 to play when Drummond's first 3-pointer pulled the Greyhounds within one; a minute later he gave Loyola the lead for good with his third 3-pointer of the game to make the score 67-65 with 3:49 remaining. When sophomore forward Erik Etherly stole the ball in the Siena backcourt and beat the Saints defenders up the floor for a dunk, the Greyhounds led by four points and the Saints would not get any closer.

More Division I: Ameer Ali scored 14 points and Aric Brooks added 13 as visiting Morgan State (11-10, 7-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) earned a 65-57 victory over Bethune-Cookman (13-11, 7-3). DeWayne Jackson contributed 11 points as the Bears shot 58.3 percent from the field (21-for-36) in ending a three-game skid. C.J. Reed, the league's leading scorer, paced the Wildcats with 20 points before fouling out with 7:08 left and the Wildcats down 54-43. … Brandon Holsey and Amin Stevens combined to score 33 points and host Florida A&M (9-14, 4-6 MEAC) held off a late charge to earn a 60-58 win over Coppin State (11-11, 6-4). The Eagles trailed 56-46 with 3:58 to play when Michael Harper connected on a 3-pointer that jump-started an 11-3 run to bring Coppin to with 59-57 with 50 seconds to play. … Hillary Haley scored 28 points, including the winning free throws with three seconds left, and UMES (6-17, 3-7 MEAC) rallied from 13 points down in the second half and escaped with an 83-82 victory over visiting North Carolina A&T (10-14, 5-5). The game had nine ties and 17 lead changes. Thomas Coleman led the Aggies with 20 points but was called for an offensive foul as he went for a game-winning basket with one second left.

Division III: First-year player Cameron Cook hit a career-best seven 3-pointers and scored 29points in lifting visiting Hood (12-10) to an 86-67 victory over Penn State-Mont Alto. Brenden Straughn, Justin Stone and Tyler Snoots had 10 points each for the Blazers.

Honors: Delaware freshman guard Devon Saddler (Aberdeen) was named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week. … St.Mary's senior center Sam Burum was named Pride of Maryland Player of the Week. … Salisbury senior guard David Pearman (Oakland Mills) was named Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

Coppin falls to Florida A&M; Andresson lifts Mount

Tameka McKelton scored 21 points and Antonia Bennett scored all 15 of her points in the second half as host Florida A&M (11-11, 6-4 MEAC) rallied to a 73-62 victory over Coppin State (8-13, 5-5). The Rattlers trailed 31-27 at halftime but pulled ahead by shooting 63.6 percent from the field in the second half. After Ashle Craig made two free throws to give the Eagles a 35-30 lead with 17:31 left in the game, Florida A&M answered with a 19-1 run.

More Division I: Junior Sandra Andresson scored a career-high 25 points to lead host Mount St. Mary's (6-17, 3-9 Northeast Conference) to a 51-45 win against Monmouth (15-8, 7-5). … Tracy King scored a game-high 24 points, including five in overtime, to spoil host UMES' second-half comeback and lead North Carolina A&T (10-11, 6-4 MEAC) to an 80-68 victory over the Hawks (8-15, 5-5). UMES, which got 19 points from Casey Morton, trailed 53-42 with 9:52 remaining in the second half.

Division III: Cara Thompson scored 16 of her game-high 20 points in the second half to lift host McDaniel (7-14) to a 56-47 victory over York (Pa.) (11-10). Whitney Snoops (Archbishop Spalding) had 14 points and 16 rebounds. Kim Acton (Severna Park) added 10 points. … College of Notre Dame (3-18, 0-12 Colonial States Athletic Conference) lost, 86-68, to Rosemont (8-12, 4-8) despite 22points from India Scottand 19 from Kelcy Bye.

Honors: Maryland junior center Lynetta Kizer was named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week after she averaged 20.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in two victories. … Coppin State freshman power forward Larrisa Carter was named MEAC Rookie of the Week.

Ex-Clemson assistant Powell to coach Terps running backs

Clemson assistant coach Andre Powell is joining the Terps football team as running backs coach, Maryland announced. Powell has been at Clemson for the past four years, where he also coached special teams during part of his tenure. He was at North Carolina from 2001 to 2006 and at Virginia from 1996 to 2000. He did two stints at Army in the 1990s and was a graduate assistant at Indiana, his alma mater. At Clemson, he coached James Davis and C.J. Spiller, two of the top three rushers in Tigers history.

More colleges: Former Towson quarterback Dan Crowley, the school's all-time passing leader, was named director of development, team support. He will lead all sport-specific fundraising initiatives and a new letter-winners organization. … Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute senior weight thrower Ja'Mar Watson (Glenelg) was named Liberty League Field Performer of the Week. … Primary seating for Towson men's and women's lacrosse games this season will shift to the north side of Johnny Unitas Stadium (opposite the press box) because of nearby construction of a 5,000-seat arena. … Delaware named senior midfielder Corrine Drost (Hereford) a women's lacrosse co-captain.

WNBA: The Washington Mystics signed 5-foot-8 guard Maurita Reid, who is averaging 17 points, five rebounds and five steals in Croatia. She played at the University of Miami.

Major League Soccer: Former U.S. national team member Charlie Davies scored in the 41st minute as D.C. United defeated the Canadian under-20 team, 5-1, in a preseason scrimmage in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. United is evaluating Davies, who has not played a competitive match since he was a passenger in an October 2009 car crash, before deciding whether to acquire him on loan.
