Daryl Wade, the son of former Dunbar and University of Maryland basketball coach Bob Wade, has been ousted as the coach of the Perry Hall boys basketball team, a school official confirmed Tuesday.
Perry Hall athletic director Kathryn Graybeal declined to provide any additional details, other than that the program is moving forward with Monique Bassett, a physical education teacher at the school, as the new coach.
"I can confirm that Coach Monique Bassett is the head coach of the boys' varsity basketball program at PHHS for the remainder of the 2010-2011 winter season," Graybeal said in a statement.
Wade's assistant, Tim Daughton, is also no longer with the program, the school confirmed. Neither Wade nor Daughton are employed by the school.
Wade and Daughton could not be reached for comment. Both coaches reportedly were ejected during Wednesday's game against Patapsco for arguing with officials. On Friday, the school announced that Bassett was the new coach.
Daryl Wade has also coached at City and Mervo.
