Roundup: Broadneck upsets No. 13 Old Mill, 79-48, in boys basketball

A tough defensive stand by host Broadneck limited No. 13 Old Mill to four points in the third quarter and the Bruins upset the Patriots, 79-48, on Tuesday.

Brooks Wiggins had 20 points for Broadneck (8-1), whose man-to-man defense took away fast-break opportunities for Old Mill in the second half, allowing them to stretch their 17-point halftime lead. Old Mill fell to 5-2.

No. 8 Dunbar 61, St. Vincent Pallotti 36: Devante Wallace scored 20 points and the Poets (8-0) cruised past the Panthers. Dunbar made eight 3-pointers and led 33-15 at the half.

No. 10 Lake Clifton 60, Southside 30: Daquan Ross and Cortell Henson each scored 14 points to lead the visiting Lakers (6-1) past the Jaguars.

McDonogh 46, Loyola 29: The visiting Eagles (10-4) went on a 13-2 run in the third quarter to pull away. McDonogh's Kayel Locke led all scorers with 18 points. Dave Marsh had eight for the Dons (6-9).

Calvert Hall 68, St. Maria Goretti 51: Denzel Richardson scored 26 points and the visiting Cardinals (7-8) made 16-of-18 free throws in the fourth quarter. The Gaels trailed 32-22 at the half.

Girls

No. 3 Joppatowne 63, Patterson Mill 33: Zameria Jones had 17 points to lead the Mariners (8-0) past the host Huskies.

No. 5 Aberdeen 82, Elkton 56: Brianna Jones had a double double, 25 points and 15 rebounds for the visiting Eagles (8-0).

No. 6 Digital Harbor 57, Owings Mills 23: A'lexus Harrison had 17 points and 20 rebounds to power the host Rams (6-4) past the Eagles (4-3).

No. 10 Western 58, Douglass 11: Tenicia Spence scored a game-high 26 points to power the visiting Doves (6-3) past the Ducks. Western led 32-8 at the half.

Wrestling

No. 6 Owings Mills 81, City 0: The host Eagles (13-0) racked up 10 pins against the Knights. Owings Mills was led by 152-pound wrestler Taran Carr (14-1), 160-pound competitor Larry Johnson (15-0) and 119-pound wrestler Warren Marck (15-0).

Monday

St. Frances 52, No. 4 McDonogh 51, OT: Freshman Cyndi Cole forced overtime and sank the winning free throw as the host Panthers (3-7) upset the Eagles (9-3) in overtime.

St. Frances trailed 46-42 in regulation and Cole scored twice in the final minute to force overtime. In the extra period, St. Frances trailed 50-48 before Cole made a jumper and went 2-for-2 from the line. McDonogh's Tiersa Winder (20 points) went 1-for-2 from the line with less than minute left to pull the Eagles within one, but no closer.
