Boys Athlete of the Week // Charlie Lynch, Archbishop Spalding, wrestling

The first-team All-Metro standout led the No. 1 Cavaliers to their second prestigious tournament championship in as many weekends, this time capturing the 152-pound class of Stephen Decatur's War on the Shore on Saturday. In improving his record to 8-0 this season, Lynch pinned three opponents — needing eight minutes, 52 seconds to do so — to reach the championship match, then coming away with a 14-3 major decision over LaPlata's Josh Lopez for the title. The Cavaliers comfortably won the 27-team tournament, outpointing runner-up Sussex Central from Virginia by a 190-159 margin. Lynch, a Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Assocation champion last year who finished with a 46-2 mark, also won four matches to win the 145-pound class at McDonogh's Ray Oliver Tournament on Dec. 4.

Others considered: Taran Carr, Owings Mills, wrestling; Cyrus Jones, Gilman, boys basketball; Nathan Kraisser, Centennial, wrestling; Ian Miles, Mount St. Joseph, indoor track; Mike Still, Arch. Spalding, wrestling; R.J. Williams, St. Frances, basketball.
