Keys to victory
The showcase game in the two-day Under Armour Invitational at St. Frances features teams with contrasting styles. The visiting Rams have a balanced offense led by guards Kevin Smith and Daquan Cook and love to use their speed and athleticisim with pressure defense and fastbreak offense. Most of the Panthers' offense comes from point guard R.J. Williams and center Greg Lewis — both four-year varsity players. Williams is coming off a 19-point, five-assist performance in a 62-48 win over Bowie when Lewis went for 17 points and 16 rebounds. Despite five new starters, Digital Harbor looked like it has been playing together for years in the team's comfortable 57-28 season-opening win over Archbishop Spalding on Wednesday, getting 12 points each from Cook, a St. Frances transfer, and Ronald Epps. Rams coach Johnnie Grimes said tempo will be important. The Rams want to keep pressure on the ball, rebound consistently and run. St. Frances will try to slow the ball down and work inside to Lewis. Friday's tournament nightcap has No. 5 Patterson taking on Calvert Hall with three games Saturday — Carver will meet SEED (D.C.) at 4 p.m., followed by Calvert Hall vs. Owings Mills at 6 and St. Frances hosting Parkville at 8.
