Perry Hall's girls and boys soccer teams continued their surge to the state playoffs with victories Tuesday night in the Baltimore County championships at Franklin.
Preslie Quaranta and Lea Ritson scored five minutes apart early in the second half to lead the 10th-ranked Perry Hall girls to a 4-1 victory over Dulaney. The Gators lost their season opener to Reservoir but have won 11 consecutive games and enter the playoffs as the top seed in Class 4A North.
The fifth-ranked Perry Hall boys survived a late rally by Loch Raven in a 3-2 victory and have won six straight games since a Sept. 20 loss to No. 13 Bel Air. The Gators are the third seed in 4A North, while the Raiders are looking to defend their state title as the top seed in 1A South.
"We came out with good pressure," said Perry Hall forward Joe Glos, who scored the game's first goal. "We have great momentum heading into the playoffs. We're going to be hard to beat. We have a lot of confidence going into the playoffs, which is great."
In the girls game, Kara Burke gave Dulaney (7-5-1) an early lead with a goal in the 21st minute. Quaranta and Ritson allowed the Gators (11-1) to pull ahead with goals in the 49th and 54th minute, respectively. Goals by Jamie Sokolis and Danilyn Bock in the final 11 minutes put the game away.
"We panicked a little bit, but our heads didn't go down," Bock said. "We looked forward to trying to come back. The adrenaline started rushing, and there was nothing you could do to stop us."
In the boys game, the Gators (12-2) took a 1-0 lead on Glos' ninth goal of the season in the 13th minute. They increased the lead on a goal by Mike Black just three minutes into the second half. Chad Bukowski made it 3-0 with a goal in the 67th minute.
The Raiders (8-6) stormed back as Jordan Sachs scored twice in the final 10 minutes, but Loch Raven could not get any closer.
"The playoffs are one-and-done if you don't perform, so you want to go in with some momentum," Perry Hall boys coach Danny Skelton said. "We did a good job of controlling the game and playing our style of soccer."
