What's at stake: It's the third meeting between the Tigers and the Chanticleers. Towson claimed a 21-17 victory last year, while Coastal Carolina won, 31-3, in 2008. ... Towson sports a 31-10 record in home openers, including five straight wins and 12 of the its last 13. ... Towson dropped a 51-17 game to open its season at Indiana, but the Tigers outgained the Hoosiers in total yards of offense, 392 to 360. ... The Chanticleers are fresh off a 31-0 defeat at West Virginia last Saturday.
Key matchup: Sophomore safety Jordan Dangerfield had a solid debut for Towson against Indiana, but the Hofstra transfer will face a tough test against Coastal Carolina. Quarterback Zach MacDowall, who started his college career at Wake Forest, threw for 157 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 40 yards and another score against the Tigers in his Chanticleers debut two years ago. Dangerfield wracked up 10 tackles, broke up a pass and forced a fumble against the Hoosiers, while senior cornerback Ollie Thomas added eight tackles for Towson.
Players to watch: Towson running backs Nygee Carmichael (44 yards on nine carries) and B.J. Greening (32 yards on five attempts) had some success against Indiana. They'll face a stout Coastal Carolina run defense on Saturday. Said Tigers coach Rob Ambrose: "Any team that can shut down West Virginia's running game has to be a serious contender for the NCAA FCS playoffs." Quarterback Chris Hart set a Tigers record for rushing yards with 123 on 16 carries against Indiana.
