Maggie Morrison, Archbishop Spalding, soccer
The first-team All-Metro forward began this season in the same fashion as she ended last year's: scoring timely goals. With the No. 1-ranked Cavaliers opening their campaign at the Zionsville Invitational in Indiana last weekend, Morrison scored three goals in a 4-1 opening win against Ohio's Northview on Friday night and followed that performance with a one-goal, one-assist effort in a 2-1 win over Fenwick, also from Ohio, on Saturday afternoon. She scored game-winning goals in both games before the Cavaliers fell 1-0 to Tennessee's St. Agnes in the championship round, ending the team's 38-game unbeaten streak that started in the 2008 season. Morrison finished last season with 18 goals — including six game winners — and 10 assists in leading the Cavaliers to a 20-0-1 record. Also a first-team All-Metro guard in basketball, she is set to play that sport at Vanderbilt next year.
