Mark Venable, Franklin, football
A senior in his first season with the No. 11 Indians, the 5-foot-10, 195-pound Venable made an impression on offense and defense in Friday night's season-opening 31-12 win over Bel Air. As a running back, he gained 102 yards on 13 carries and scored two touchdowns. He also had two receptions for 81 yards. As a linebacker, he had 10 tackles, a forced fumble and a quarterback hurry. Venable, who transferred last year from Archbishop Curley, played football and basketball and ran track for the Friars and plans to continue all three sports with the Indians. He began his football career with a Middle River Rec. team.
