Beatrice Capra, the 18-year-old from Ellicott City, saw her unlikely run at the U.S. Open end today with a 6-0, 6-0 loss to No. 14 seed Maria Sharapova.
Capra, a wild-card entry to the Grand Slam, reached the third round when she came from behind to upset No. 18 seed Aravane Rezai of France, 7-6, 2-6, 6-3 on Thursday.
She won her first match on Tuesday when she defeated Karolina Sprem 6-1, 6-3.
Sharapova, a former U.S. Open champion, will face No. 1 seed Caroline Wozniacki on Monday.
