"D"- ING IT UP Continuing a theme from the past couple of days, the defense severely limited the offense Saturday. Three series from the defense's 25-yard line ended in field goals, and strong safety Dawan Landry intercepted quarterback Joe Flacco on the very first play. Saturday was the first time since camp began that the offense failed to score a touchdown.
CATCH OF THE DAY Wide receiver Justin Harper pulled in a long pass from Marc Bulger despite coverage by cornerback Chris Hawkins and safety Ken Hamlin. Second place goes to running back Ray Rice, who leaped over linebacker Ray Lewis to haul in a pass that would have been long enough for a first down.
HAMLIN MAKES HIS MARK Hamlin still turned in the best defensive individual performance by intercepting Troy Smith during 7-on-7 and then Bulger during a 9-on-9 drill. Second place goes to linebacker Antwan Barnes, who batted back passes by Flacco and Bulger.
REED'S OTHER JOB Free safety Ed Reed may be on the team's physically-unable-to-perform (PUP) list, but that didn't stop him from playing a little quarterback during cornerback drills. Reed, a six-time Pro Bowler, took a few snaps at quarterback at Destrehsan High School in St. Rose, La.
KICKING UPDATE Shayne Graham shook off two consecutive subpar outings with a flawless 9-for-9 effort. Graham had connected on just 7 of 12 attempts prior to Saturday. Billy Cundiff went 7-for-9, missing from 33 and 44 yards. Cundiff had converted 8 of 11 tries on Thursday.
INJURIES Wide receiver Derrick Mason and cornerback Chris Carr each suffered hamstring injuries during practice and did not return. Cornerback Fabian Washington (unspecified) was suited, but did not participate. Offensive tackles Jared Gaither (back and shoulder spasms), Tony Moll (concussion) and Stefan Rodgers (leg), center David Hale (unspecified), cornerback K.J. Gerard (hamstring) and safety Marcus Paschal (right leg) did not practice. Running back Willis McGahee (swelling in left knee) returned to practice after sitting out Friday's sessions. Players who remain on the PUP list are Reed (hip), cornerback Lardarius Webb (knee), linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo (quad) and running back Matt Lawrence (knee).
OVERHEARD "He's a media person's worst nightmare." — Free safety Tom Zbikowski on Landry. Zbikowski said Landry is overlooked because he's a consistent worker who isn't flashy.
NEXT DAY'S SCHEDULE Sunday's practice starts at 2:45 p.m. and could run between 2 and 2 1/2 hours.
