Palace Baltimore takes 2-1 win vs. Impact

A shot from Shaun Pejic deflected off Andrew Marshall and into the net midway through the second half, and Crystal Palace Baltimore picked up a 2-1 road win Sunday afternoon over the Montreal Impact in front of an announced sellout crowd of 13,034 at Saputo Stadium. The Impact took the lead when Leonardo Di Lorenzo blasted home a shot past goalkeeper Evan Bush just three minutes into the contest. In the final minute of the first half, Gary Brooks tied the score with a strike from 25 yards out. With the victory, Cystal Palace Baltimore is now just one point out of the eighth and final playoff spot in USSF Division 2.

Donovan converts penalty to send Galaxy past United, 2-1

Landon Donovan scored his first goal since the World Cup on a penalty in the 58th minute to give the Los Angeles Galaxy a 2-1 win over host D.C. United. Keeper Troy Perkins correctly guessed left, but Donovan pinned the ball just inside the post for his second goal of the season. United had tied it four minutes earlier when Andy Najar headed home Pablo Hernandez's cross. Edson Buddle, who also played for the U.S. in South Africa, scored his MLS-best 11th goal when he gathered his own rebound and scored from close in the 38th. United hasn't won in five straight MLS games since a 3-2 result in Seattle on June 10.

'Rachel' in, rest of field taking form for Lady's Secret Stakes

As reigning Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra prepares to run in Saturday's $400,000 Lady's Secret Stakes at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, N.J., the field for the 11/8-mile race is beginning to take shape. "The race will be drawn on Wednesday, when we'll obviously know for sure, but right now my best estimate is a field of five, perhaps six," Monmouth Park racing secretary Mike Dempsey said. Rachel Alexandra, the winner of last year's Preakness, is scheduled to ship from Saratoga to Monmouth Park on Tuesday. Those considering challenging the champion are Hark, from the Ian Wilkes barn; Queen Martha, trained by Patrick Biancone; Stage Trick, from the camp of Alan Goldberg; Starship Angel, trained by Kiaran McLaughlin; and Yes She's a Lady, trained by Todd Pletcher. The Lady's Secret Stakes will mark the fourth start this year for Rachel Alexandra, who is coming off a victory in the Fleur de Lis Stakes at Churchill Downs on June 12.
