Loyola's Hall leads Abacus to Baltimore Summer League title

J'hared Hall (Loyola) scored a game-high 20 points to lead Abacus past Tark's Grill, 67-62, in the championship game of the Baltimore Summer League on Wednesday. Hall's teammate Jamal Barney (Southwestern) led Tark's Grill with 17 points. In the third-place game, Field House defeated Team 5, 102-66, as Erik Etherly, also of the Greyhounds, scored 29 points. Towson's Isaiah Philmore (John Carroll) and Loyola's Josh Wiegand (John Carroll) both had 17 points for Team 5. Led by 18 points from Coppin State's Ceslovas Kucinskas (Mount Carmel), Team 6 claimed fifth place with an 81-58 win over Mad River Bar & Grille.

Horse racing: Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver will prepare at Saratoga for the Grade 1 $1 million Izod Haskell Invitational and ship to Monmouth Park the morning of the race Aug. 1, trainer Todd Pletcher said. "He's at Belmont now," said Pletcher, the leading trainer through the first half of Monmouth's Elite Summer Meet. "We'll send him to Saratoga next week, and he'll train there up to the race. He'll van down early the morning of the race." Super Saver, owned by WinStar Farm, has not raced since finishing eighth behind Lookin At Lucky in the Preakness on May 15.

Golf: Becky Rutherford rolled in a 12-foot par putt on the first extra hole to defeat Bonnie Fry in a playoff for the Greiner Cup, an annual tournament of champions sponsored and conducted by the Women's Golf Association of Baltimore. The two Maryland Golf & Country Club members had opposite nines, as Rutherford shot 38-42—80 and Fry 42-38—80 at Caves Valley Golf Club. Tinker Sanger of Green Spring Valley Hunt Club, a one-time Greiner Cup winner, posted an 88 and won the Seniors title for the third time in the last four years.

Hagerstown Suns: Washington Nationals starting pitcher Scott Olsen will appear in a rehab outing today for the Suns. Olsen, who went 2-2 with a 3.77 ERA in eight starts for the Nationals before landing on the DL in late May, is scheduled to start the game against the Rome Braves. First pitch is set for 7:05, and gates will open at Municipal Stadium at 6 p.m.

Women's college basketball: Erin Batth joins Towson's staff as an assistant coach. Batth joins the Tigers from Virginia, where she served as the director of women's basketball operations for the last four years. She will work with the post players and assist with recruiting at Towson.

D.C. United: Roger Levesque headed in the winner in the 89th minute as the visiting Seattle Sounders FC ended a four-game winless streak with a 1-0 victory over United on Thursday.
